The objective of this study was to find out the effect of homemade pulley resistance training on
shooting accuracy and throwing power among Bahir Dar university female handball players.
The study applied quantitative research approach and employ experimental design to attain the
intended objectives. For this study the researcher has selected all 20 female handball players
who participate in Bahir Dare university female handball team as a sample by using
comprehensive sampling methods. Thus players were assigned randomly into two groups, 10
of them experimental and the rest 10 as control group. They were in the age category of
19 up to 20 years. Upper body cable pulley resistance training program with Eccentric
overload was administered three days per week for about eight consecutive weeks each
lasting 40 to 60 minutes for the experimental group in addition to the regular training
program and the control group has only received the previously regular training program.
Subjects were measured on shooting accuracy, power throw, and upper body strength(1RM)
on two occasions first before administration of upper body cable pulley resistance training(EO)
as pre-test and after 8 weeks of the training as post-test. The data collected from the study
subject was analyzed using SPSS software version 23.0 by paired t-test with level of significant
0.05. The results showed upper body cable pulley resistance training with eccentric
overload significantly improved muscle strength, power throw and shooting accuracy in
Experimental Group at (p<0.05). But no significant differences were found in all of the
variables in CG (p>0.05). Based on this finding, it can be concluded that eight week
homemade cable pulley resistance training with eccentric overload helps to improve upper
body strength, shooting accuracy and power throw of female handball players.
