Abstract:
A study was conducted in HuletEjuEnesie districts, East Gojjam administrative zone, Ethiopia with objectivesto assess and evaluate the growth, survivability and egg production performance of Bovans Brown chicken breeds reared under growers and farmers management condition. The data were collected from September 2018 to July 2019 and a multi-stage sampling technique was used to collect the survey data. A total of 134 (10 growers and 124 farmers farm’) and 360 chicken were selected for survey and monitoring data collection, respectively. The survey data was analyzed using SPSS. Monitoring data were analyzed using the General Linear Model Procedure of statistical package for Social Science (SPSS), with the model including the effects of growers and farmers production system and Egg production performance. The result of current study revealed that the main production objectives of keeping Bovans brown chicken in the study area were for income generation followed by for egg and meat consumption, respectively.The majority (44.8%) of the producers had experience of 2-5 years while the rest (32.1% and 23.1%) of the producers had less than 2 years and 5-10 years previous experience, respectively. This indicates that farmers participate in the current study had less experience in rear poultry for the reason that most poultry production participants were jobless youths. The results of the study indicated that there were 134 farms and the sources of the chicks were private farm (92.5%) and market (7.5%). The majority (98.5%) of the households were provide separate house for newly supplied Bovans brown chicken because of the introduced breeds are not clearly known the presence or absence of disease and the rest were not provided separate house for newly supplied Bovans brown chicken.The overall mortality rate of chicken at the age of week 0 up to week 22 was 12.11% for Bovans Brown chicken.
