The adverse side effects of synthetic chemical pesticide for control of harmful parasites, agricultural and home insects on the environment and human health shifts to a new botanical product. The study aimed to explore agave sisalana leaf extract against cockroaches and grain weevils. Particle size and extraction time have significantly affected the extraction yield. Sisal extract yield was varied from 0.57 % to 5.42 % with maximum yield obtained at 9 days and 0.5-1mm particle size. Phytochemical analysis shows alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, tannins, phenols and glycosides were present in sisal leaf extract which possess its insecticidal activities. The total flavonoid and total phenol content of sisal leaf extract were also found to be 1.087 ± 0.002 mg of QE/gram of dry mass extract and 0.563 ± 0.068 mg of GAE/gram of dry mass extract respectively. FTIR analysis of sisal extract was done to determine the functional groups present. The analysis shows the presence of alcohols, phenolics, amines, amides, nitriles, alkanes, alkenes and nitro compounds. Insecticide activity of sisal leaf extract was done against brown banded cockroaches and grain weevils at 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10 % extract concentrations with control treatments exposed to 24, 48 and 72 hours duration. Results showed that higher mortality of grain weevils which ranged from 16.67 % to 88.33 % was observed than cockroaches which ranged from 8.33 % to 52.78 %. The maximum mortality of cockroaches and weevils was obtained after 72 hrs exposure time and at 10 % sisal extract concentration. Analysis of variance shows for P<0.05 both exposure time and extract concentration have significant effect on mortality of cockroaches and grain weevils compared to mortalities in the untreated or control treatments where no mortalities were recorded, but extract concentration has more significant effect on mortality of both pests which shows a direct relation between concentration and lethal effectiveness of sisal extract and thus the plant has a good potential against grain weevils.
