Abstract:
The objectives of this study are to identify and examine livelihood diversification strategies
which would contribute for food security, to identify and examine the determinant factors of
livelihood diversification strategies which may strengthen or limit their effectiveness on rural
household food security and to examine the contribution of livelihood diversification strategies
to rural household food security. The result of multinomial logistic regression model revealed out
of 14 variables include in the model 9 independent variables are found to be significant up to less
than 5% probability level. So these variables determine engagement of rural households in
diversified livelihood strategies in one or another way. As the result on the logistic regression
model shows livelihood diversification strategies are significantly affect the household food
security status at p<0.05. This means the type of livelihood diversification strategies directly
associated with food security status. As general conclusion livelihood diversification strategies
have positive effect and it is the best solution to alleviate poverty and insure food security at
household level in rural areas.
