dc.description.abstract Bahir dar textile industry a huge industry and plays an important role in the Ethiopian economy. Besides its great economic contribution, the industry is known by the consumption of large quantity of water and generation of huge amount of wastewater. The factory uses raw water from Abbay River and discharges the effluent water back to it. The goal of this study is reusing of this discharged water and producing good quality of water for process water requirement; because the quality of the effluent water is better than of the quality of the raw water. The experiments were conducted both in Bahir Dar University and Bahir dar textile industry out site and onsite respectively by measuring the water quality parameters (pH, turbidity, conductivity, temperature, TSS, TDS, BOD and hardness from the three water sites (i.e. raw, process and effluent water) by using different materials, chemicals and reagents. From the result most of the water quality parameters of the effluent water was found to be under the reuse standard level except harness. The average hardness result of the three sites were (100, 91.67, 107) mg/l Raw, Process and effluent water respectively. Which means all the hardness of three sites are above the reuse standard level (i.e. >60 mg/l) even the process water the company used ˃60mg/l, so in this study for removal of the hardness and producing good quality of water ion exchange column were designed. en_US
