dc.description.abstract Tempered glass is a safety glass processed by a controlled thermal or chemical treatment to increase its strength compared with the ordinary (or annealed) glass. Thus, in thermal tempering manufacturing process temperature control of tempering furnace is the main problem. This thesis deals with temperature control of an electric furnace for glass tempering process using Model Reference Adaptive Feed Forward Control. Conventional methods of like Proportional, Integral and Derivative is inefficient for adapting the environmental system disturbance, which are time varying nonlinear system. In this thesis, Feed Forward Model Reference Adaptive Control (FFMRAS) is used to control the system. In addition to minimizing the error between model references output and the plant output, it also gets good dynamic response. The electric furnace for temperature control model is controlled adaptively based on MIT rule feed forward control, Lyapunov rule feed forward control and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results have shown that the performance of the system using Feed Forward Model Reference Adaptive Control of the process in terms of the rise time, settling time and overshoot has good response with in considering of fast stable reference model. Generally, from the simulation results, Feed Forward Model Reference Adaptive System Controller has better performance and is more stable than PID controller. The robustness and disturbance rejection capacity of the controllers is checked by doing parameter variation, by changing the delay time and introducing disturbance signal after settling time. It is observed from the results that the proposed controller has better disturbance rejection and robustness. en_US
