The study was conducted at Guna Spring Water Bottling Factory in Kimir Dingai, Farta Woreda, found in South Gondar Administrative Zone of the Amhara Region, Ethiopia. The altitude of the area is 4300m above sea level in Guna highland. The factory is located 136km and 699km far away from Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa respectively. The aim of this research is to evaluate the quality of discharged water and compare with WHO drinking water standards and Ethiopian bottled drinking water specification to reuse for potable purpose. The discharged water quality analysis was conducted by physical, chemical, and biological parameters of water in association with set of standards. These parameters are directly related to the safety of drinking water to human use. The physical analyses of all parameters were within the recommended ranges except color of the water at five minute during backwash time. Nevertheless there was no detectable color at ultra-filter. Similarly, all chemical analyses except phosphates were also, within recommended ranges. Phosphate varies along the treatment plant unit processes. Investigation of phosphate has shown values ranging between 0.01 mg/l to 0.72 mg/l. The laboratory result on bacteriological analysis has shown no indicator organism (total coli form, fecal coliform and Escherichia coli tye1) at the discharged water which the factory considered as waste water. All in all, the study displays concentration in the discharged water has no health concern. Thus I dare conclude that based on the three basic water quality parameter results, the discharged water from different unit process on a daily bases can be used as an alternative source of water for potable purpose. I recommend interested researchers to investigate the functionality or the shelf life of cartridge (membrane).
