A thermosyphon solar water heating system which captures and utilizes the abundant solar energy to provide hot water for Tirunesh Beijing Hospital was designed. The system was designed to supply a daily hot water capacity of 4.6m3 at a temperature of 45oC. The meteorological yearly solar data of Akaki were used to determine monthly hot water requirement of the hospital. The monthly solar radiations and weather data were also used. A parametric study was also carried out to study the effects and sensitivity by varying some design parameters such as collector tube centre to centre distance, collector number of cover, collector tube internal diameter and collector tilt angle on the design objective function (the heat removal factor). The results of this research led to the conclusion that a thermosyphon solar system with collector area of 30m2 operated under the weather condition of Akaki, would be capable of supplying a daily water of 4.6m3.
