Photovoltaic pumping is commonly applicable nowadays throughout the world. Particularly in the field of agriculture. This renewable energy based water delivering system can be extended to construction purposes by making slight adjustments. This thesis work tries to find out the feasibility of using a photovoltaic pumping system for construction purposes by focusing mainly on residential buildings. In order to achieve this goal, water demand analysis was carried out and current water supply system was carefully studied. The weather data for Addis Ababa were collected from national meteorological agency and NASA. Water demand is obtained from questionnaires distributed to eight construction sites namely, Gumi Gayo real-estate, Haji real-estate, Akaki, Yekabado,Gelan,Makif,Bolearamsa and tulu dimtu sites.The target group includes clients, site engineers and daily labors. It is tried to make the research applicable to all construction areas by taking representative samples.Gumi Gayo, Gelan and Akaki sites are specially selected and the analysis and simulations are done using PVsyst software. Out of these Gumi Gayo site was selected for further detailed economic analysis. It is found out that the cost of water for 2 years of individual house construction duration by using PV pumping is 105 ETB/day while with transporting water the cost is 240ETB/day. For 20 years duration, the cost of PV pumping will be significantly low with 22.8ETB/day. This shows the longer the application time the cheaper the system will be. At the end of this paper comparison tables are given and it is found out that the cost of water using PV pumping is feasible compared to the diesel pumping or the current practice of transporting water using vehicles. Although the research mainly focuses on building constructions it can also be extended to bridge and road construction by making necessary adjustments.
