Abstract:
With the advancement in the communication systems, there is need for large bandwidth to send more data at higher speed. Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) - Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) is important due to its efficiency, higher bandwidth, and low cost passive connection and reduced complexity of the deployment and maintenance of the network. The implementation of radio over fiber in wireless communication achieved high data rate and high capacity due to utilization of high capacity optical fiber and the flexibility of wireless network. Optical Wireless Channel (OWC) is the most popular technique in free space optical communication which, is a high speed and large capacity type of communication system. It uses infrared light to convey message from transmitter to receiver. OWC is the solution of last mile problem mainly in overpopulated urban areas. On the other hand the optical fiber also plays a very important role in optical communication system due to its very low loss, lightweight & high bandwidth. This paper demonstrated the integration of OWC & WDM-EPON technology that makes system more advanced, cost effective, high BW & high data rate. The proposed integrated system performance was evaluated using multiple scenarios with multiple parameters by using OptiSystem 14 software. The analysis of simulation results is based on the Bit Error Rate (BER), Quality Factor (Q Factor) and Eye pattern obtained for various scenarios. The system has been analyzed using different power source values, different length and different operating wavelength. The results of performance evaluation for OWC have shown that 2.5 Gbps is better than 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps for wavelength, power and length As the distance between transmitters and receiver is increases BER also increases and Qfactor decreases. And also the power of optical fiber is increases Q-factor increases and BER decreases.
