dc.description.abstract Nowadays, several methods are available for the analysis of moments at the design section of reinforced concrete two-way slabs under gravity loads. In this investigation, it has been attempted to compare different analysis and design procedures for reinforced concrete two-way slabs and to choose the best method for the design of slabs with regard to accuracy, easiness, suitability, economy of the result for designers. These techniques considered in this study are those methods included in codes of different countries, and finite element approaches including SAFE and ABAQUS software programs. From the comparisons of the design moments in the column and middle strips of the slab, the total slab moments across the width of the interior panel of the slab, there are appreciable differences are observed between the results obtained using different methods of analysis of two-way slabs. The effect of slab to beam stiffness ratio on slab moment is highly considerable; increasing the slab to beam stiffness will decrease the total statical moment value on two-way slabs in both directions, but keeps constant at higher stiffness ratio. In some cases, the load transfer in the shorter direction of two-way slab is larger than the longer direction, and the reinforcement in the shorter direction should be denser than the longer direction. However, in this investigation, different analysis methods give the larger moment in the longer direction relatively at lower beam to slab stiffness ratio. en_US
