Abstract:
Energy is critical to the economic growth and social development of any country. The ever increasing and continuously unpredictable fluctuating diesel prices, with a location that is rich in different renewable energy source, utilizing it is the main goal now in the country, therefore, this research suggested that fuzzy logic controlled wind–diesel hybrid power generation system which used to supply electricity for community who are living in Berbera, Somaliland. This thesis was begun by investigating and assessing the existing power system condition and the wind potential of the case study area. Moreover, studies were conducted on application and contribution of fuzzy logic control techniques. The modelling and simulation of an isolated Wind/Diesel hybrid system is done by using MATLAB software. This thesis considered to supply 1.5 MW of power from wind system, which covers around 57% of the total power consumption of the area. In addition; this work presents, initial cost of the wind plant compared to the existing fuel cost of the diesel generator will be re-embers within three years payback period. Generally the thesis concluded that the proposed system will play a role for the power supply improvement of Berebera, Somaliland.
