Low soil fertility and use of inappropriate seed rates are among the major constraints limiting the productivity of bread wheat in Ethiopia in general and in the study area in particular. Therefore, the experiment was conducted to determine the effects of seeding and NPS rates on growth and yield of bread wheat in Borena District, South Wollo Administrative Zone, Ethiopia. The experiment was a 4×4 factorial layout in a randomized complete block design with three replications comprising a total of 48 plots, each measuring 2×3 m2. The seeding rates used were 100, 125, 150 and 175 kg ha -1 and the NPS rates were 120, 150,180 and 210 kg ha -1. The data collected were phenological as days to 50% heading, days to 90% physiological maturity and vegetative growth parameters as well as yield and yield related parameters. All data were subjected to analysis of variance using GLM procedures of SAS version 9.0. Results showed that the main as well as the interaction between seeding and NPS rates had a significant effect on days to heading, days to physiological maturity, plant height, effective tillers, above ground dry biomass yield, grain yield, thousand kernel weights, straw yield and harvesting index except spike length and number of kernels per spike. An increasing in seeding and NPS rates result in increased plant height, effective tillers, above ground dry biomass yield, grain yield, straw yield and harvesting index significantly and days to heading, days to physiological maturity were increased as NPS rate increased and decreased as seeding rate increased. In terms of spike length and kernels per spike content, they also significantly increased with lower seeding rate and higher NPS rate. In the correlation analysis most parameters were positively correlated to grain yield however, thousand kernel weights was negatively correlated with grain yield. Grain yield was strongly positively correlated with straw yield, above ground dry biomass yield, effective tillers, plant height and harvesting index. Based on the partial budget analysis the combination of 125 seeding and 150 NPS rates was profitable than other combinations therefore this combination can be recommended for Borena District.
