The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the biography of Däjjazmač Asfaw Tesemma, a
prominent political and military figure of Fogära Wäräda from 1908 to 1995. The principal
approach employed in this stud y is the qualitative method where data was collected both from
primary and secondary sources. Therefore, the researcher obtained valuable information from
secondary materials such as books, articles, and MA theses. The study also relies on the use of
invaluable archival materials, which the researcher culled from the Central Gondar Zone
Administration Archival Center. From this archival center, the section that deals with the patriots
significantly helped me in the reconstruction of the biography of Däjjazmač Asfaw Tesemma.
Therefore, the thesis was written based on a critical analysis of archival sources and oral
information gathered from knowlegible people.The thesis focuses on the family background and
boyhood life time of Däjjazmač Asfaw Tesemma. In this connection, an attempt was made to
introgate the information that the researcher collected from informants against archival materials. In
the course of reconstructing the biography of Däjjazmač Asfaw Tesemma, the researcher came to
realize that his role as leader and organizer of the patriotic resistance movement in Däbrä
Tabor Awrajja, was significant to such an extent that both the people and the government of
Ethiopia gave recognition. The people recognized his leadership role by appointing him as Avat
during the period of occupation and the government recognized his role by promoting him to
higher political and military titles and by awarding him with gifts and different medals. The man
in question also received the attention of the Imperial government after the explusion of the
Italians in that he was made to serve the government as governor in many places. In this
connection, Däjjazmač Asfaw Tesemma played significant roles in the establishment of Fogära
Wäräda. Though an old retired man, he also attracted the attention of the military regime whom
the government assigned him as a member of committees and invited distinguished guest in the |
