Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the individual and social predictors of prosocial
behavior among adolescents in Fasilo Secondary and Preparatory School. The study employed
correlational survey research design. The study also used quantitative approach. Fasilo
Secondary and Preparatory School students were the participant of this study. Of these student,
423 students (Males= 211 and females =212) were selected using Stratified random sampling
technique considering representativeness of male and female students as well as grade levels.
Standardized and self-developed instrument was used as a data collection instrument. The data
were analyzed by using mean, one-sample t-test, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA,
correlation and multiple regressions. The finding showed that adolescents engaged most
commonly in emotional prosocial behaviors. The study revealed that adolescents manifested
slightly higher prosocial behavioral tendency. Furthermore, female students had higher level of
prosocial tendency than male students. In addition the result points out that, grade 9
students
account a statistical significant difference in prosocial behavior than the upper grade level in the
school. The result also reported that empathic concern was significantly positive associated with
prosocial tendency. The results of multiple regressions also examined that emphatic concern is
the most important predictor of prosocial tendency.
