The study deals with the methods used by the teachers in the teaching and learning of fractions in grade five class. The objectives of the study were to examine the types of methods that are being used in grade five, South Sudan teachers in the teaching and learning of fractions, to investigate the kind of fractions constructs and the models that are being used in the teaching and learning of fractions, to examine extend by which the partitioning, iteration and the equivalence of fractions enhance the teaching and the learning of fractions, to investigate how the comparison of fractions and estimation of fractions promote the effective teaching and learning of fractions and finally to examine the type of misconceptions that the learners do incur due to the teaching and learning of fractions. The research design was a descriptive qualitative approach in which instruments such as observations, structured interviews and short hand note taking were used for data collection. Conclusively, the findings revealed that the teachers were only using operation and division of fractions as the instruments for fraction constructs and model, the finding indicated that partitioning & iteration and estimation of fractions were not properly used by the teachers in the teaching and learning of fractions. Additionally, the findings had revealed that equivalence and comparison of fractions were satisfactorily applied by the teachers in the teaching and learning of fractions in grade five. In the nut shell, the finding had indicated that the students had incurred much more misconceptions on the teaching and learning of fractions accordingly.
