dc.description.abstract Abstract Tap water and bottled waters become the main source of water that is used by people and should be evaluated for the safety level whether it is free from the contamination of heavy metals or not . The trace metal compositions of tap water samples of Gondar town from different sample sites (kebele 10, 11, 13, 14, 18 and Angereb river as well as reservoir) and six brands of bottled mineral water (Abyssinia, Classy, Highland, Aqua addis, Aqua bilen and Real spring) were analyzed using standard method. Differential pulse anodic striping voltammetry (DPASV) at glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was used for the determination of Pb, Cd and Zn. The detection and quantification of each metal in samples were done by multiple standard addition method. Cd was not detected in all samples. Zinc was detected in both tap and bottled water samples and it was at higher concentration in bottled water as compared to tap waters, but with in maximum contamination limit of WHO and USEPA. Lead in most tap water sample were above maximum contamination limit of WHO and USEPA. The pH of water samples were found to be with in WHO and USEPA limit.
