Ethiopian population uses biomass as a primary energy sources. More than 50% of this energy accounts for injera baking. Injera baking devices were prepared by combination of clay soil, copper metal powder and water as a mixing solution. It can be fabricated through crushing, grinding, mixing, molding, drying and firing. This study systematically investigated the influence of copper intercalation on the physical transport properties of a clay composite. We also measured thermal conductivity, heat capacity and compressive strength of the composite material for injera baking pan and characterize using thermal conductivity apparatus, diffraction scanning calorimeter and universal compressive strength test. We found that the samples from composite having the highest copper content with clay composition revealed the highest thermal conductivity, heat capacity and compressive strength on each sample. For instance, the sample which prepared from only clay has a thermal conductivity of (0.473 W/M. K), heat capacity of (3.21 J/ Kg .K) and compressive strength of (0.00263 MPa). The samples which prepared from copper content Cux(x= 0.2g ,0.4g, 0.5g ) in percent ratio increase thermal conductivity and heat capacity of a sample which prepared from only clay by the efficiency of ( 82.7%, 92.2% and 94.3%) and (54.3%, 87.1% and 88.2%) respectively. The efficiency of physical transportation of heat increases with increasing copper content in the compositebecause copper has high thermal conductivity material. From this we conclude that the efficiency of transportation system of injera baking pan can be enhanced by increasing copper content in the composite and this help to save energy and time.
