Abstract:
Because of facing the numerous garments fit problems to ready-to-wear
industry, in recent years there has been a remarkable increase in anthropometric
surveys taking place worldwide for development of sizing systems. It has been
acknowledged that the extent to which one sizing system may be applied to
different populations is limited due to the variability of body shapes and sizes.
Various countries have developed their own sizing systems in order to reduce
problems associated with clothing sizes and fit. So the purpose of this paper is
to present a detailed procedure used for the development of a size chart
based on anthropometric body measurements of Woldia town tailors’ men
customers. A total of 1384 men customers aged 18 and above years were
measured using manual measuring procedures. A quantitative approach was
used to generate descriptive statistics from the raw data to obtain five sizes
of a body measurement table. A step by step procedure used for analyzing
the raw data obtained from the anthropometric body survey is presented. Size
codes, size limits and verifiable size charts are generated. This study
contributes greatly to knowledge of size chart by providing a detailed
procedure involved in developing research based anthropometric data and will
serve as the basis for other future research in Woldia town as well as in Ethiopia.
Further anthropometric studies should be conducted to cover all age categories
of women and men in Woldia and Ethiopia as a whole.
