This study aims to develop improved school book pack for school children from 5 to15 age group. Examining student’s weight and the daily school bag weight as well as by analyzing the existing school bag design, price, material and relating issues are studied as main parameters. It also covers ergonomics and financial ability of the potential customers. This Case study was designed with four schools as a sample size among total 26 numbers of schools as a target population, and random sampling is used to select the participant of 152 students (grade 1 to 10).Interview also constructed to gather the required data, 41 parents interviewed as well. In the research the carriage duration, the weight of bag, the students’ weight was measured and then assessed with standards issues. The maximum bag weight also determined and the required Materials tested. The results showed that (96.7%) of the students evaluated carried a weight of more than 10% of their body weight. 3.28 % of students carry the bag weight less than or equal to 10% of body weight with average carriage duration of 22 minutes per day and with wrong backpack design. 6.9 kg is the maximum bag weight. This study develops a convenient school bag that can minimize ergonomic discomforts of the current student and it includes suitable compartments for water and lunch box with polyurethane.
Originality: This study highlights the ergonomics impact of school bag carriage on school children in Bahir Dar town private schools. Furthermore the study highlights using the convenient school bag design is the best way and carries what is needed only to minimize the daily load as well as the study developed the convenient school bag. |
