dc.description.abstract Abstract The height profile of atmospheric temperature data between 12 km and 100 km was obtained from SABER satellite instruments during the year 2016 and used to characterize the temporal variability of height and temperature of the three atmospheric pauses over Bahir Dar region (𝟏𝟏. 𝟔 E). The daily variation of height and temperature of tropo-strato-mesopause was investigated and found that the entire trend of the height of the three atmospheric pauses shows diminutive decrements. Specifically, on average we found that the maximum heights of tropo-strato-mesopause are found to be (17, 48 and 98) km respectively. On the other hand, while the trend of temperature of tropopause in the entire year shows a small increment that of stratopause and mesopause shows a significant trend of decrements. Our result also showed that approximately the temperature of tropopause increases by 1.5 K while that of stratopause and mesopause decreased by 3 k and 13 K respectively over the year. On average the maximum temperatures of tropopause, stratopause and mesopause are found to be (192, 268 and 161) K respectively. Monthly variation of height and temperature of the three atmospheric pauses showed that, the height of tropopause, stratopause, and mesopause are found to be maximum (201, 268, and 197) k in May, (February and July) and (March and November) respectively. On average we found that the mean monthly height of tropopause, stratopause, and mesopause are (18.9, 49.5, and 98) km in May, February, and May, respectively. Seasonal variation of height and temperature of the three pauses show that, the height of tropopause, stratopause and mesopause are found to be maximum (17.3, 47.4, and 86) km at the season of spring, summer and autumn respectively, while the corresponding temperatures are found to be maximum (198.6, 265, and 186) k at the season of summer, spring, and winter respectively. The maximum occurrence frequencies distribution of mesopause, stratopause and tropopause heights are (48, 37 and 121) with the corresponding altitude (98 km, 48 km and 17 km) respectively. While, the occurrence frequency distribution of mesopause, stratopause, and tropopause are (9, 26 and 33) with the corresponding temperature (150 K, 268 K, and 192 K) respectively. From these results to detecting such kind of pause’s height and temperature for obtaining background structure of the atmosphere and associated perturbations.
