ABSTRACT
The mesospheric temperature inversion over Bahir Dar is studied by using SABER satellite data
in the year 2012. In this investigation a statistical analysis of the characteristics of mesospheric
inversion layers is made. The inversion layer is detected most frequently in the altitude range of
78-80km as lower peak altitude with temperature of 190K. The most frequently upper peak
altitude inversion is seen at altitude of 95km with temperature value 177K. The maximum
monthly altitude occurrence of inversion is found in May and from October to January. The
minimum monthly altitude occurrence of inversion is found in March and July. The maximum
seasonal occurrence of inversion is found in summer equinoxes and winter equinox’s periods.
The amplitude of inversion temperature is found to be (10-15)K.
