dc.description.abstract Sexuality and reproductive health are among the most fundamental aspects of life. Information about sexual and reproductive health for young people is important for their sustainable livelihood. Open family discussion on reproductive health (RH) issues often leads to increased awareness on RH matters and reduces risky behaviors among adolescents. This study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude, practice and factors affecting parent-children discussion on RH issues in Shahura town, North Gondar, Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study using questionnaires supplemented with focus group discussion (FGD) and key informants interview was conducted on 314 randomly selected parents. The study was conducted from April to May 2016. Data were analyzed using tables, frequencies, percentage and association between variables analysed using SPSS version 20. Among 314 parents, 109 (34.71%) of parents reported that they had discussion with their children on at least one topic of sexual reproductive health issues. There was a significant association between socio-demographic variables including age, marital status, and occupation, level of education and religion of parents with parent-children communication on SRH. Training and education about sexuality and reproductive health need to be provided to parents on how to communicate with their children to improve their discussion skills by breaking down certain limiting factors.
