dc.description.abstract oil saliuity is one of the ma111 environmental problems alll.-c1i.11g excessive areas of dryland in ~? both developed and developing countries. This >111tl}' \<·SS conducted m 11t,~ llarhu OJ Kebele. wruch is located i11 Kalu Worcda . South Wdlo Zone in the 1\_'\RS. The purpose of this research i.~ toassess the status of soil salinirv in the laboratorv usin~ both clccuical conducrivuv and 1>H mcasuremcm of soils from cultivated land use area in the Kcbele. Representative soil samples from 30 loca\io1);. in Harbu 01 Kebelc from U - 20 cm depth were collected and the soil samples wen: air dried in 1ti.?laboratory. The basic physical properties of soil were determined hy passing , of fertilizers that inhibit salinity. selection of sall t.ul...-ain crops and application of gy[lf.LUll shall be. adopted in the management of soils in rhc s:ucy area to alleviare the. iutut~ increasing of this problem ' ' . " .. ., the sub samples through a sieve of the desired size i< 2 mm) for laboratory analysis. The chemical properties; soil pH and electrical conducuviues (EC) were measured Ircm the l:2 and 1 :~ ratio er ~nil - water suspension respectively u>ir.g conductivity and pl I meter. The results s'li<>wed that soil pH ranges from 7_) - 7. ~. ;mrl :he EC ranges from 2.1 - 2.8 dS/m, which inoicatcd that the soil in sorue parts of the area has very slightly saline nature. The study indicated a limited occurrence of soil salinity and alkalinity in the top 20 cm soil profile in rh en_US
