This thesis tries to reconstruct the socio-political history of Limmu Wdrdda, which is located
in the present day east Wallaga Zone. The period within which the reconstruction of the
'1:7 history of the wdrdda focused is the twentieth century. The thesis employed methods such as
careful collection of available written sources followed by the identification of archives and
other official documents from the Ethiopian National Archive Center and Library Agency at
Addis Ababa, East Wallaga, and Horro-Guduru Wallaga Zones as well as Limmu Wdrdda
administrative offices. Oral information is collected from informants that in turn followed by
· detail study, crosschecking, and systematic interpretation of all the sources in qualitative
method.

Abstract
ndftdiui-gdbbar system right after the incorporatio"!_ of Limmu to the Ethiopian empire at the
end of 19th century. Thus, the incorporation of Limmu to the Ethiopian Empire under
Menelik II marked the supremacy of the soldiers locally called Gonddres in Limmu until the
Clian occupation of the wdrdda in 1937. The administrative structuring and restructuring of
Limmu during the imperial government in the post-liberation period could not bring
significant socio-economic and political improvements in the life of the wdrdda 's people.
