Land suitability evaluation is the base for Iand use planning and land management to
enhance the sustainable LL"'>c or land resources. Suitability evaluntion for tcf maize and grass
pea cultivation in r:.iinfed agriculture was studied through a qualitative process of matching
land characteristics with crops requirements based on maximum llmirarion system. The
present study ..,\~s initiated with the main objectives of creating the digital elevation model,

idc"tifying and mapping the major soils and LlJLC, classifying the watershed into land
mapping units, and finaJJy producing suitability maps of the selected crops. whic'i are
c!rlfvated in the Debre Mcwi watershed in the Amhara Regio'1. The mojor variables used in
lhis study include topography, climate, soil and LUL<..', L>a~t ol spatial vector ard raster as
topographic $h~et, field observation and laboratory results. Arclnfo GIS 9.2 version was
