dc.description.abstract The aim of this thesis was to swdy the nccurnrsjneeds of second level land certification program using different instruments used for land su.rveying and registration purpose. The general objective of the study is to taste the accuracy of Orthophoto andl-iand held UPS Gannin 72H in comparison to RTK GPS. The total number of point c.:oordi11ates used for the study were 1412. These points were taken from 41 1 randomly distributed parcels in the sturiy area. To study the effect of slope on the accuracy o.f Orthophoto measurement., the study area was classified purposely in to two slope categories. This slope classification was limited in to two riue to the fact that the slope range in the smdy area is iimited. The sample size was detennined based on the size (area} of the slope class iti the study area. The study revealed that Orthophoto has the nuwn a.cr:uracy of J.6m whereas, 1-landheld GPS Garmin 72H has a mean accuracy of 6.0rn. Including the mean, in ail descriptive statistics used, an Orthophoto has better accuracq record than Hand held GPS 72II. As to the result, it is concluded that Onnophoto has better accuracy thclll Hand lteld OPS Garmin 72TT. Tnemean accuracy recorded in slope range of 0-10%, is 1.58m whereas the result in the slope classof 11-22%, is l.6lrrL This shows that, tr.e mean accuracy difference between these two slope classes is 0.03m. In the slope classes of 0· 10% and 11- 22%, there is insignificant difference in accurars] showing the slope effect on land surveying an.d registering in che srudy area. Hand HddGPS Garmin 72H has a mean record of 6. Om and I land Held CPS Gannin 60 has 7.1 m.1'he difference of accuracy between means is 1.1 m. This figure shows that, Hand held CPS Gannin 72H is u<..>curare by I. 1 m than Hand held CPS 72H in the study area. To carry out second level land registration and rertificaiion. activity, Using Onhopnoto is better accurate than Hand held CPS 72H. Tne effect of slope during sumeying and registering land using Orthophoto measurement needs further studies in different slope categones. This is due to •he insignificant difference in u.c;,-urucy between the two slope c/a.sses discussed in this study. Studying slope effect 011 land rngistration and surueying usir1g Ortlwphoto in slopes from flat to steep is very importa11t for countries like Ethiopia having varying topography to choose better instrument and methods to survey and reqister the land. As discussed in the third objective, the accurar:y difference between Hand hi:!l<l OPS Garrni>i 72H and Hand held OPS 60 has to be considered as it is not the same as it is produced area ..
