Corruption in developing countries continues to be one of the greatest factors of poverty and underdevelopment. As it is the case in other developing countries, in Ethiopia, corruption is being the major impediments for socio-economic development of the country and committed in many public sectors from national to local government institutions. This study, therefore, assess the community perception on the intensity of corruption and its causes as well as measures taken to curb corrupt practices in Debere Tabor Municipal administration. The data that able to achieve the objectives of the study was mainly gathered using questionnaire from 405 households. The multistage sampling technique was applied to select 405 respondents. The key informant interviews were also held with head of departments, civil society leaders, woreda court judges, auditors, community elders, persecutors to collect qualitative data. The data collected by using questionnaire was analyzed using frequency counts and percentages and thematic approach was employed to analyze the qualitative data. The findings of both quantitative and qualitative data reveal that the community perceived corruption in different forms as a serious problem. Factors that responsible for the existence of corruption the municipal administration as perceived by the community were the ambition to become rich as quick as possible, weak rule of law, lack of accountability, absence of measures on those commit corruption, long cumbersome bureaucratic procedures, low salaries of public servants. Even though some efforts have been exerted to curb corrupt practices, the anti-corruption efforts did not bring significant change. Instead, the intensity of corruption has been increased over time. Thus, the efforts of watch dog institutions and the community of Debre Tabor Town are needed to minimize the ever-increasing level of corruption.
