dc.description.abstract	The main objective of this study was to examine the processes and approaches of conflict transformation in the Amhara-Afar conflict of Habru and Chifra woredas. The study investigates the nature and causes of conflict between the two ethnic groups. It also emphasized on activities being carried out in pursuit of the transformative objectives. Thus, the practices of transforming attitudes, behaviors and contradictions in the area were examined. Moreover, actors who involve and the challenges that obstruct the transformation of conflicts in to constructive outcomes were given due attention. To this end, the study employed qualitative research methodology with explorative research design. Both primary and secondary data sources were employed. The data gathered using in-depth interview and document analysis were narrated thematically. The finding indicates the competition for grazing land and water points, violent cultural practices, environmental degradation and drought were the major causes of conflict. Besides, acts of theft and homicide together with the proliferation of illicit arms exacerbate the conflict. After all, violence for territorial claim was also emerged as a new trend that marked the changing dynamics of the conflict. Related with conflict transformation practices, various intervention mechanisms have been implemented to bring constructive outcomes. And yet most of the works were only limited in addressing the immediate causes of conflict. Therefore, for effective transformation of conflicts in the area, the government should give more emphasis on addressing the root causes of conflict in line with the immediate causes.
