The antioxidant and antibacterial activities of the extracts were determined by reducing activity assay. The phytochemical screening tests were done using defferent confirmatory tests pirior to quantitative determination. Accordinglly, the ethanol extract showed positive test for the presence of phenolics, flavanoids, tannis, sapponis, and alkolids but not anthraquinons. In the case of petroleium extract, only steroids and sapponies are present. For quantitative determination, the total phenolic content of extract of rosemary leaves with ethanol was calculated in terms of mg Gallic acid equivalent per 100 g of dry weight of samples was 17.780 ± 1.354. Likewise, the total flavanoid content of the ethanol extract was calculated in terms of mg quercetin equivalent per 100 g of dry weight of samples and it was 6.782 ± 0.459. The antioxidant activity of rosemary leaves extract using ethanol was calculated in terms of mg ascorbic acid equivalent per 100 g of dry weight of sample and it was 45.699 ± 1.064. With regard to antibacterial activity determination, the petroleum extract of rosemary leaves showed stronger effect than that of ethanol extract of rosemary and was efficient against all the tested microorganisms.
