dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the implementation of integrated functional adult literacy in Aba’ala woreda, at Afar region. For this study, descriptive survey research design was employed; both qualitative and quantitative data were gathered through questionnaire and interview. The sources of data for the study were; 52 adult learners,39 adult facilitators, 5 cluster supervisors, 2 woreda education experts ,5 school principals and relevant documents related to the issue. The simple random sampling techniques, comprehensive sampling techniques and purposive sampling techniques were employed to select the respondents of the study. The collected data were analyzed using percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation. The questionnaire was administered to adult learners and facilitators and the interview was administered to adult experts, school principals and cluster supervisors respectively in the academic year of 2017. The data obtained through the questionnaire, the collected data were organized and presented in tables and the data obtained through interview was interpreted qualitatively in light of available literature. The results of this study have revealed that, adult learners in the sample training centers have a positive attitude towards their training. Lack of available training for facilitators and inability to organized the planned number of training centers, inability to develop adult training materials in local language, stakeholder’s inexperience in adult education work processes and lack of awareness with in community. It has been recommended that, in order to solve such problems, the Woreda Education Office, Regional Education Bureau and Ministry of Education in collaboration with their stakeholders and all concerned bodies at different levels should provide reasonable solutions to the financial problems of IFAL programs. Woreda education office and its experts in cooperation with the woreda administration should also maintain awareness creating programs to the local community of the woreda. en_US
