The main propose of the study was to examine the influence of parental education and parenting
style on · Atse Becafa elementary school students psychosocial adjustment and academic
achievement. The only variables that significantly contributed to academic achievement were
work orientation, authoritarian parenting and authoritative parenting style. Their contribution
together was 98.1%. When academic achievement was regressed on all of the independent
variables and the mediator variables the coefficient of determination was R2=0.946.In addition
to the above finding authoritative parenting, negligent parenting and parental education
significantly contributed to work orientation and social competence. The contributor variables
explained 58.1 % and 5 9. 7% respectively. The coefficient of determination (R2) when work
orientation and social competence regressed by all the independent variables was 0. 638(63.8%)
and 0. 696(69. 6%). ~espectively. However, the only· variable significantly contributed to self-
