dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of career structure and career development towards motivating trainers in the three institutes in South Wallo Zone in 2003£. C. To achieve the objective, the researcher used descriptive survey method. The data were collected from trainers, principals and teacher association leaders of the three institutes through questionnaire, interviews and document analysis. The main sampling technique which was appropriate to the study was comprehensive sampling. To collect data, the researcher prepared 21 closed and 3 open ended questions to trainers, 20 closed and 2 open ended questions to principals and vice-principals, and 6 structured interview questions to principals and teachers' association leaders, with regard to career development and career structure. After the questionnaires were collected, they were tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted. Jn the analysis part, the quantitative data were analyzed using percentage and mean while the qualitative were analyzed using narrative descriptions. The finding were the career structure lacked clarification; the institutes and the agency didn't properly resolved the complaints; the pathways from the standard to the other were not designed properly; the trainers didn't get conducive environment to upgrade and update the competencies and the trainers were found to be disappointed in their job. It was concluded that the ineffectiveness of the guidance for career structure, the institutes roles were very limited; the stakeholders didn't play their part properly; their were non conducive environment to apply career structure and career development and other related factors deteriorated the workers' morally to work effectively. There for, much attention should be taken to minimize the problems. Finally it was recommended that, the institutes should work together with the agency to solve the career development and career structure problems that have a negative impact to TVET training. When this is done, the trainers will get a chance to work effectively and make the trainees successful. en_US
