dc.description.abstract The major purpose of the study was to assess utilization of school physical plant of secondary schools in East Gojjam by employing descriptive survey types of methodology. Four research questions were raised on the study. To achieve the purpose of' the study, eight schools (out of 26 secondary schools in East Gojjam) were selected as a sample. As to the participants, teachers and administrators such as principals, deputy principals, unit leaders and heads of departments were included in the study. The data collection tools used were questionnaires and observation. Questionnaires were used to collect data from teachers and administrators. The data was collected fl-om 130 teachers and 72 administrators. Both open and closed ended items of 50 were used to collect data from teachers and administrators. And the researcher did observation of schools understudy. For the purpose of observation, 43 items of checklist were prepared and used. The collected data were analyzed using percentage and tables. The obtained results revealed that the school physical plant components in East Gojjam were in adequate to conduct the teaching learning process. As the result of the study indicated the existing school physical plants were not also used effectively due to in sufficient school facilities. In addition to this there was no regular maintenance service and the educational program in the zone is negatively affected by inadequate school facilities. The current school plant situation in East Gojjam, signifies that the quality of education is in question. The result of the study suggested that effective majors need to be taken to meet the standards regarding the school plant in the Zone in order to provide quality education for the students. en_US
