ABSTRACT
of trainers, COC assessors and management bodies should be provided & resource should be
fulfilled. TVET is very important for social, cultural and economic development of the country. However,
to achieve this goal the competence of the graduates influenced by the complex set of different
• factors, which negatively affect employability of graduates. Hence, the purpose of the study was,
to assess the cause for failure in national assessment and unemployment among TVET graduates
in Eastern Gojjam administrative zone and there by suggest possible remedies for the
improvement of competence of trainees and their employability. To this end, the research
methodology employed in this study was descriptive survey. Accordingly, survey questionnaires,
interview and observation checklist were prepared and administered to the sample of I 57
respondents. A total of 150 (94%) of the questionnaire were properly filed and returned. The
results obtained were analyzed by using percentage, chi-square test and weighted mean. The
finding of the study indicated that the training is not relevant, trainees are not competent
enough to be employed, the availability of necessary facilities were insufficient, there is no
sufficient economy and stakeholders that can absorb TVET graduates and trainees do not get
adequate and timely labor market and career guidance information. Thus to alleviate the above
problem recommendation were forwarded. Hence, awareness creation and guidance and career
counseling service should be given due attention, the up grading program and skill gap training
