dc.description.abstract A theoretical investigation of equation of motion of elliptic cylinder; specifically equations for velocity potential, stream function, complex potential, and kinetic energy are studied, by considering two dimensional irrotational motion of incompressible, Newtonian fluid produced by the motion of an elliptic cylinder in an infinite mass of liquid at rest at infinity. Cases when the elliptic cylinder moves in an infinite liquid with velocity u parallel to the axial plane through the major axis of a cross section, when it moves with velocity v parallel to the axial plane through the minor axis of the cross section, when it moves with velocity in a direction making an angle with the major axis of the cross section of the cylinder, when it is rotating with angular velocity , motion of a liquid in rotating elliptic cylinders, and circulation about an elliptic cylinders are discussed. en_US
