Abstract:
This project work highlights the design and simulation of a variable power supply
regulator by using CA3140 IC OP AMP. A variable power supply is a device that
supplies electric power to an electrical load. As the name implies, it will allow the
user to vary or change the output voltage within the speci fied ranges. It is the
most frequently used device in electronics workshops and laboratories as a universal
variable power supply which has a fluctuation-free output.
In this work, we ;present a variable power supply regulator which is simple and easy
to construct. The circuit is built from ~he CA3140 IC comparator op amp and a
three terminal variable voltage regulator IC LM7805. The main AC supply voltage of
220V - 240V is stepped 'down by a center tap (CT) transformer to deliver a secondary
AC output voltage of 24V peak-to-peak amplitude. The output of the transformer

is rectified by two diodes. Capacitors are also used as filters to eliminate the ripples.
We'have designed a variable power supply regulator with output voltage ranging from
5V to 11V
