This thesis is about a history of literacy campaign in Diibrd Marqos Awrajja to 1991. The study
is done depended on written materials and documents found in local places as well as national
archive centers. In addition to this I use oral traditions and information. In this research,
qualitative research approach was used. Both primary and secondary data sources were utilized.
With regard to primary data source, the key informants are selected purposefully by considering the
expertise of the participants on education in general and in literacy campaign in particular. Church
fathers, teachers and students were participated. This research employed archives, individual
interviews and focus group discussions as primary data gathering tools. It also used secondary data
sources. Reports of the institutions and related books, thesis, journals, newspapers, and educational
policies were utilized as secondary data sources. There was not comprehensive study about about
the history of literacy campaiqn in Debremarkos Awrajja. Therefore this thesis give emphasis on the
historical perspective of literacy campaign in my study area Focusing on student achievement, the
teaching process, and benefits experienced by participants of the Campaign. Another important
objective was to consider the role of the Campaign within a wider socio-economic and political
context. The thesis gives the readers to get good knowledge regarding the implementation and
achievements of NLC in the study area. It will be useful to education offices, capacity building
offices and other policy makers to take good lesson from this study. So that to prepare effective
adult education program to eradicate illiteracy in our country to the end This study will also be
a good reference for researchers who are interested to deal with the similar issue in or out of the
study area. |
