The main purpose ofthis study was to identify the factors that affect players' team cohesion and
success in the case
ofSouth Gondar Zone football clubs that participate in Amhara League. To
do this a descriptive survey method was conducted. In this study 60 players, 4 coaches, and 8
club managers were participated.
86.4% ofthe samples were selectedfrom the total population.
The sample size
of the study was selected by using simple random and purposive sampling
methods. Simple random sampling was used
to select player representatives and purposive
sampling was used
to select clubs, interviewed players & club managers. Besides this, adequate
amount
of data were collected by using multiple data collection tools. Predominantly
questionnaires were used as a major data collection instrument.
The questionnaire was piloted
for reliability and validity. However, in order to assure the validity of the data that obtained
from questionnaires triangulation method was applied by using structured, semi-structured,
&
unstructured interviews andfield observation. The data that was obtained from questionnaires,
interviews and field observation was analyzed quantitatively
and qualitatively through
percentage and descriptive statements. Generally, leadership style
of the coach, players poor
interaction
& communication, swapping &.fhanging ofplayers in the club, lack of adequate
amount
offacilities and equipments adversely affect the team cohesion among players in South
Gondar Zone football clubs.
In addition to this, majority ofrespondents 63% revealed that lack
ofsupervision and encouragement from club managers ofplayers training session highly affect
team cohesion among players. In conclusion, the study showed that there
is a problem ofteam
cohesion among players
in the study area. Effective communication, responsibility & ownership,
support
& cooperation, mutual respect, and common goals have positive contribution to enhance
team cohesion among players. Therefore, to reduce the encountered problem recommendations
were suggested by the researcher.
