Abstract:
This study sought to assess the relationships among teachers' self
awareness, self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Teachers
of three high
schools in Bahir Dar were subjects
of the study. The results of this study
showed positive correlation among the variables under consideration.
Teachers who were low self-efficacious and high efficacious were
compared and differed statistically significant in the level
of job
satisfaction. The high self-efficacious teachers were more satisfied with
their job. Again, teachers were also compared with their self-awareness.
Those teachers who were both reflective and ruminative differed
) significantly in their job satisfaction from those teachers who were neither
reflective nor ruminative. Other findings
of this study showed that the
teachers were found
to have low level of job satisfaction or tend to have
higher degree
of dissatisfaction. At the same time most of the teachers
were found to have low self-awareness and self-efficacy. Therefore,
improving teachers self- awareness and self-efficacy could
be one possible
point of emphasis but not remedy to their low level of job satisfaction.
Hygiene factors were the main contributors to teachers' low job
satisfaction.
The schools, communities, and the government should work in
coordination and in collaboration for the improvement
of teachers' job
satisfaction. Because teachers are the immediate models
of students to
help them develop qualities such as high self-efficacy and good level of
self-awareness. Helping teachers could improve these important inputs of
learning which could pay many folds to the schools in particular and to the
educational sector in general.
