dc.description.abstract Classroom Management is a velY important system to use rules and procedures in managing student's behavior in order to maintain and produce good classroom environment jor better learning results. However, it becomes critical jor novice teachers r-r and as a whole cause for teachers burn out andjob dissatisfaction. Tlje main aim ofthis research is to study the practices oj the three different approaches oj classroom management among experienced and less experienced teachers a'nd preferences of students towards classroom management approaches in first cycle primmy schools of Gondar city. To conduct the study, 493 teachers .from 37 schools were classified into experienced and less experienced teachers using strat?fied sampling. The number ofless experienced teachers was jew and the whole teachers (89) were taken as sample for the less el:perienced and J~ J teachers were samples for experienced teachers and selected using simple random sampling. 50 students were selected pwposejully jrom the students oj 37 primary schools. Questionnaire jor teachers and interviews jor students were ., applied to collect data. The data were analyzed with SPSS version JJ, and one sample ttest was conducted to jind the result oj the general level ofpractices of the approaches \ (humanistic, behavioral, &classroom tradition), two sample t-test was applied to ident~/y the differences ojpractices of the approaches between experienced and less experienced teachers, and chi-square was pe110rmed to ident?/y the prejerences of students towards classroom managfiment. The results were obtained that regardless ofyears of services, the teachers werefound to use the thee approaches in classroom in order to manage their students; experienced teachers use humanistic approach more than less experienced teachers and on the other side less experienced teachers use classroom management tradition & behavioral approaches more than experienced teachel's. At last the preference of students was found to be humanistic approach their .first choice and classroom management tradition and behavioral approaches to classroom management • their 2" d & 3 rd preferences, respectively. So, filrther studies is advisable in studying the issue relating with d~fferent variables andfactors in order to produce & maintain better classroom environment which is important jor students to learn better and attain educational goals. en_US
