dc.description.abstract The data collected by the ground based GPS-SCINDA receiver located at Bahir Dar( )11.6° N, 37.38 0 E) have been analyzed to study the response of ionospheric scintillation and TEC for geomagnetic storm of 6 April 2010, 29 May 2010 and 11 October 2010. Dst, Kp, Bz and AE indices used test the geomagnetic activity effect on the generation of ionospheric irregularities producing scintillation. It is found that the TEC value is highly influenced by geomagnetic storm. 'When the geomagnetic storm days TEC compared to quite day TEC on 9 April 2010 TEC is greater. The maximum scintillation recorded magnetic storm day is greater than the quite days. This indicates that relatively high scintillation activities started from about 17 UT up to the local midnight period is occurred. When the geomagnetic storm days TEC compared to quite day on 1 June 2010 TEC is greater. A negative storm effect is seen on 29 may 2010 and a positive storm effect is seen on 1 June 2010. The maximum scintillation recorded magnetic storm day is less than the quite days. This indicates that relatively high scintillation activities started from about 3UT-6UT on 1 June 2010 and from 2 June 2010 18UT up to mid night period is occurred. In this case the scintillation has no clear relation ship with magnetic storm. Their is minimum TEC recorded during main phase of the storm time(9.65 TECU) when compared to TEC in quit day with value 12.62 TECU on 7 October 2010 and 13.52 TECU on 14 October 2010. A slight negative effect of the storm has been observed during 11 October 2010. The scintillation observed during quite days, on 26 October 2010 and 14 October 2010 which is greater than the scintillation observed during geomagnetic storm day.
