dc.description.abstract This dissertation is a report on linear codes. It is shown that linear codes can be applied in forward ermr correction. It is shown that linear codes are a methodfor transmitting extra symbols or bits to a message prior to its transmission through a nosy communication channel so that if error occurs in the communication some error can be detected or corrected by recipient of a message block. A method of presenting linear codes is described. It is established that linear codes can be presented using basis or generator matrix. Moreover, it is shown that the validity of the transmitted codeword can be checked using parity check matrix. It is also discussed that some decoding scheme and the capability of error detecting and error correcting oflinear codes is established. en_US
