ABSTRACT
This paper describes the potential use of styrene butadiene rubber and enset fiber as a
reinforcement material
in concrete. The concentrations of styrene butadiene and enset fiber were
varied and the mechanical properties
of the concrete were studied. The mechanical strength of
the concrete increased as the concentration of styrene butadiene and enset fiber increased. When
compared to the conventional concrete, the modified concrete has higher compressive strength,
flexural strength and splitting tensile strength.
The highest mechanical strength was obtained at
15% styrene butadiene and
5% enset fiber by volume. The water and chloride ion penetration
depth were greatly reduced after modifying the concrete.
