Abstract Cryptographic hash function is a function that takes an arbitrary length as an input and produces a fixed size of an output called message digest. This paper discuss an overview of cryptographic hash function and its algorithm description, which plays a vital role in the security of many applications such as digital signature, protection of passwords, verifying data integrity and sender identity or source of information, and give a practical example on SHA-1.
