dc.description.abstract This thesis is about the history of Balasa district from 1941-1991. The study is based on oral ·' information, written materials as well as archival documents. By using these sources, the thesis gives an analysis of participation of the people of Biildsa district in defending their country against the Italian aggression and the determination of the patriots of the district in the period of resistance. The restoration of the imperial rule and the changes the restored imperial administration had introduced especially in administration and land relation and subsequent • Abstract reaction of the p:asants in the district are the main themes of analysis during the imperial period. The socio economic and administrative changes made by the imperial government in the post 1941 period also brought little improvement in the life of most of the local people of the distfkt. The economic exploitation and sociopolitical suppression continued until 1974. The study also tried to see developments that the district experienced during the military regime. The land reforms, establishment of agricultural cooperatives, basic education program, the response are described. Finally, the major infrastructural developments such as education, health, water and transportations both during the imperial and the military regime in the district are included. en_US
