human- and animal diseases during imperial regimes. Malaria, typhoid, meningitis and cholera
were serious diseas es that took the lives of many people and obstructed agricultural practices.
Another environmental born consequences observed in the area was locust infection. A swarm of
locusts during the Imperial and Darg regimes demolished many acres of ps. However, from any

Abstract
The major purpose of this paper is to examine the historical outline of Environmental History in
pumara Warada during the twentieth century. The focuses of this thesis is the cause and the
consequence of environmental degradation in the Warada and the measures that have taken by
the society , the government and non government organizations to mitigate environmental
problem and to reduce the effect of environmental change in the study area. More specifically,
hum.an interactions with environment and their attitude towards nature are pillars in narrating
the patterns of environmental changes occurred in the waradas for last hundred years. The land ·
use and land cover changes of the 1973, the 1986, and the 2010 were incorporated into the
study.
The major factors for environmental change in Humara Warada were heavy deforestation,
degradation, rapid population growth, and un-proper use of farming land, erratic rain fall and
land fragmentation. The major consequence of environmental change in the Warada were the
reduction of agricultural production, temperature change, reduction of indigenous trees, other
wood land trees and shortage of pure water. Therefore, the impact of environmental change
highly affected the people of Humara Warada. As a result, the people of the Warada together
with governmental and nongovernmental organizations have taken both traditional and modern
techniques water and soil conservations in different qabales through food for· work program,
food for cash program and forced labor in addition to traditional terracing and counter plow
techniques.
