A study of the Fogara Warada could be interesting to students of history for a number of rea~ms. To begin with, it is one of the areas prone to flood. Secondly, location and climate has ~ forced the government to introduce rice in the Warada that contributed the area to be the leading rice producer in the region. Thirdly, strategic location of the area in relation to Lake Tana gave the area a special place in history and politics. Finally, it is located along the major • . route, which connects the cotmtry to the Sudan and Eritrea. The Warada experienced natural disasters starting from the earlier periods. After 1974, the problem has become more serious due to environmental degradation and population pressure .The presence of Ribb and Gumara Rivers over water flow and the backflow of Lake Tana ' have aggravated the flood hazards in the Warada than any other 'Place in the region. The problem has become very difficult for the people to live and hence it needs more research in ' order to design long-lasting solution for the safety of the population and the natural environment in the future.
