dc.description.abstract In Ethiopia 60-80 of the population suffers from water –borne and water related diseases due to lack of safe drinking water distribution. The aim of this study was to determine the physico chemical quality of drinking water quality in urban, semi urban and rural areas around Bahir Dar city. For this purpose, 30 water samples from hand pump and tap were taken and analyzed to characterize the physico chemical water quality parameters including temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, total dissolved solid, Magnesium, Calcium, Fluoride, nitrate, nitrite, iron, potassium, chloride, hardness, and alkalinity. The study was conducted on February 2014-July 2014. The temperature measurements of all water samples were aboveWHO standard limit of 15 .The turbidity concentration value of water samples was above the WHO limit and other physico chemical parameters of the water sample of urban, semi urban and rural areas were high quality. Key words: physiochemical Water Quality Parameters, Drinking water, WHO drinking water guideline and maximum permissible limit. en_US
