dc.description.abstract Evaluation of the performance of irrigation schemes helps to know the present status of the scheme and to apply possible measures for improvement. The performance of Zingini,Dandini, and Tilinkua Small Scale Irrigation Schemes had not been evaluated before this study. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the schemes by considering water delivery performance, on field water management performance and organizational setups and their performance for irrigation water management and maintenance. Primary data collec ted through field measurements and household field survey, and secondary data from different sources were used. Both internal and external indicators were used for evaluating on field water management performance. The internal indicators were application efficiency, conveyance efficiency, relative water supply and relative irrigation supply. The external indicators like agricultural out puts, Water use performance indicators, and Effectiveness of infrastructure were used. The avarage conveyance efficiency of main canal were 78.5%, 82.5%, and 81.75 % respectively for Dandini, Zingini, and Tlikua Small Scale Irrigation Schemes. The application efficiency, of Zingini, Dandini, and Tilinkua Small Scale Irrigation Schemes were 44%, 47.25%, and 53.28%, respectively. The ratios of relative water supply and the relative irrigation water supply were almost equal to 0.99 at Dandini and Tlikua Scal irrigation schemes, whereas in Zingini the value was 1.04. Dandini was better as compared to Tilinkua and Zingini interims of conveyance efficiency. Output per unit irrigated area values were 9753.85birr/ha(199.05$/ha), 9765birr/ha(199.3$/ha), and 7074birr/ha(144.36$/ha)for Zingini, Dandini, and Tlikua SSI schemes, respectively. The outputs per unit command area of Zingini, Dandini, and Tlikua irrigation scheme were 8,684.9birr/h(177.24$/ha),7,680.34ha/birr/ha(156.74$/ha),and7,958.25birr/ha(162.41$/ha), respectively. The output per unit of water consumed for Zingini is 1.03 birr/m 3 ,(0.021$/m 3 ) 1.05birr/m 3, (0.0214$/m 3 and 0.71birr/m 3 (0.0144$/m 3 for Dandini and Tlikua respectively. The reason for poor conveyance efficiency, in Zingini and Tilinkua, was due to siltation in the canal, weed growth in the canal, debris has seen due to weak management of water user organizations. This indicator shows that the crops grown in Dandini yield was more better compared to Zingini and Tlikua because the beneficiary in the Dandini effectively water supply and fertilizers used. selected minimum performance indicators, the irrigation scheme was below the performance because the management of user not concerned of schemes.
